2025 KSPAN Fall Conference: RESTORING THE HEALERS - Empowering Nurses

    ASPAN (American Society of Perianesthesia Nurses) and AORN (Association of periOperative Registered Nurses) are two nursing organizations that govern the practice of perianesthesia nursing. ASPAN updated their practice standards this year. KSPAN wanted to take the opportunity to educate our colleagues on current practices and invite AORN nurses to collaborate. This collaboration will make sure perianesthesia care is practiced throughout the state using the latest in evidence-based best practices. Kentuckians saw multiple bills pass during the 2025 legislative session that will directly impact our practice. There have also been federal bills and executive orders that were passed that will impact our practice. Within the ANA Code of Ethics, we are called to promote social justice and to advocate for fair and equitable care for all we serve. It is imperative that we understand the impact of this legislation. Nurses fully understand on an intellectual level the importance of self-care. It is in the making it a daily practice that we fail. We want to equip our colleagues with the tools necessary to make sure they can develop as well as practice a self-care routine. Nurses are experts at communication and collaboration. We do it every day with interprofessional conversations to make sure our patients have the optimal outcomes. We need to support and encourage each other to develop strategies that improve our practice.
